Sometimes, we become so occupied with solving a problem that we forget we do not have to face it alone. We keep searching for answers and trying to find the strength to carry on, until worry and exhaustion begin to take over.
But there is something every child of God needs to remember: you have a Helper.
Jesus promised His disciples the Holy Spirit, who would remain with them forever. As He said in John 14:16, the Father would give you another Comforter.
This promise matters in our everyday life: when you face financial pressure, struggle with a decision, feel discouraged, or wonder how you will manage everything before you. You do not have to figure it all out by yourself.
In Chapter 5 of Seven Things the Holy Spirit Will Do for You, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome explores three aspects of the Holy Spirit's ministry: He restores, renews, and refreshes you. This teaching reminds us to become more conscious of the help we already have in Him.
When You Feel Worn Out, He Restores You
Have you ever faced a season when disappointment, prolonged challenges, or personal concerns left you feeling drained? You may still be meeting your responsibilities, yet inwardly, you need encouragement and restoration.
David describes the Lord as a Shepherd who cares for His sheep, saying, “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake” (Psalm 23:3).
God's care goes beyond showing you the right path. He also restores you along the way.
Pastor Chris draws attention to the Holy Spirit's ministry as our Restorer. When you feel discouraged or depleted, you do not have to condemn yourself for being weak or struggle to recover entirely by your own effort. You can turn to the Holy Spirit, depend on His help, and allow God's Word to guide you.
You Have a Strengthener
When a difficult season seems endless, you may begin to wonder how much longer you can keep going. Perhaps you have responsibilities to fulfil, a family concern to resolve, or a decision to make, but you feel unequal to the demands before you.
Paul writes, “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).
Even amid outward difficulties, the inward person can be renewed. Pastor Chris uses this truth to explain the Holy Spirit's ministry of strengthening the believer.
When you do not know what to do, you can seek His guidance. When you feel overwhelmed, you can depend on His strengthening ministry. You do not have to pretend to be strong or feel guilty because you need help.
You can turn to the Holy Spirit in your weakness, knowing that you have a Strengthener who loves you and is present to help you.
And His ministry is not only about helping you endure. You can also find true restoration, refreshment, and renewal in fellowship with God.
Find Refreshment in His Presence
A problem can occupy your thoughts from morning until night. You replay conversations, consider possible outcomes, and keep searching for a solution. Even when you are not dealing with it directly, your mind returns to the concern.
Sometimes, you need to turn your attention from the endless effort to figure everything out and spend time fellowshipping with God.
David declares, “In thy presence is fulness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).
The Holy Spirit is your Comforter. Through prayer, worship, and God's Word, you can become more conscious of God's presence and approach your circumstances with renewed trust.
This does not mean every concern will disappear immediately when you pray. It means you can find refreshment in God while you are still waiting for the manifestation, and most importantly, when you place anything in God's hands in trust, you always win (Psalm 34: 4-5)
His ministry is available to you in the realities of everyday life, not only when everything is going well.
Always Remember You Have a Helper
You may have become so accustomed to handling things yourself that you forget to depend on the Holy Spirit. He is your Guide when you don't know what to do. Your Strengthener when you are weak. Restorer when you are discouraged. And when life feels overwhelming, you have a Comforter who abides with you.
You don't have to pretend you never struggle or that you always know what to do. You can acknowledge your need for help and turn to the Holy Spirit, trusting Him as you follow God's Word.
In Seven Things the Holy Spirit Will Do for You, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome explores the Holy Spirit's ministry and the help available to believers.
You have the Holy Spirit. Become more conscious of Him, depend on His help, and stop trying to carry alone what you can bring before Him. Even when everyone leaves, He will stay by you. (Psalm 27:10)
